The moon is the biggest factor in determining the cause of tides so Current Tide Clocks are designed to track the moons effect on the tide.
A lunar day (or tidal day) takes place every 24 hours and 50 minutes and refers to how long it takes for the moon appears in the same place in the sky. The hand on Current Tide Clocks complete a full rotation every 12 hours, 25 minutes and 14 seconds – this is the average time it takes the tide to come in and out on semidiurnal coasts.
Every Current Tide Clock can be set to track any semidiurnal tide (all of Ireland) so you set your clock to your desired location and you’re good to go!
Current Tide Clocks are not pre-set so you can set it to track any tide in Ireland. Every clock comes with a full set of instructions on how to set. You can also read more about it here.
We recommend using the tide chart on this website but drop us an email at info@currentclock.ie if you are having any issues setting your clock. We’ll be happy to help!
Unfortunately, we don’t offer any personalisation services at present.
We plan to continue expanding our locations and always love to hear where you want to be featured next. You can input your suggestions here.
All of our clocks can be set to track any tide in Ireland but our universal design is our Ripple Clock.
Our next restock is due in early December 2023. If you purchase a clock on preorder (back order) expect it to be delivered in the two weeks before Christmas 11th-22nd.
Alternatively, if our Christmas delivery schedule does not work for you. Consider ordering one of our physical gift cards, that will be posted to your address!
At present, the only place to purchase an official Current Tide Clock is here on our website: currentclock.ie.
Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate any in-person order collections.
When set correctly, it is normal for all tide clocks to have deviations of up to one hour. It is important not to readjust the clock during these deviations as it will upset the overall accuracy. Only set the clock on days of full or new moons for accurate results.
Approximately every 6 months it is worthwhile checking/resetting your clock during a full or new moon to ensure accuracy.
